The Steam Modules consists of three windows, a Browse Window in the left pane, a Display Window in the upper right pane and a Notes Window in the lower right pane.
The Display Window contains fields for Loco Number plus other details of the Locomotive. In addition the Notes Window allows you to enter any notes or comments on the particular locomotive highlighted above. You can navigate through the windows by mouse, arrow keys or PgUp/PgDown keys. As you browse through the list of locos the data in the Display and Notes windows will change to reflect the information on the number highlighted in the Browse window.
The screens are currently showing the data in Loco Number order. This can be instantly changed to Class order by 2 clicks of the mouse.
The comprehensive Enquiry Builder, will allow you to construct (and save for later use) both simple and the most complex queries. For example - which Locos had Carlisle Kingmoor as their last Shed and were Withdrawn in 1966.
For really simple enquiries, a separate Quick Filter function is supplied. More information on these and other PC TOPS functions can be found on the Function page.
Approximately half of the fields contain data that has been collected from various Railway Society Journals/Publications, National Railway Museum, Kew Records Office and other historical records. Where the information is not known, the field is left blank; users may enter their own data if it is known.
In the main STEAM file all Number, Class & Attribute fields are completed, plus various Built, Builder, Withdrawn, and Depot data is included. In the other files, all data is complete.
A research project is underway to obtain all the missing data which will be available as a future update at a nominal price.
The database files, field names and record count containing this information are:
