Carlisle Canal

The Shed was originally built by the North British Railway Company using sandstone. It consisted of a a 3 road straight shed and a small roundhouse.

Site of Carlisle Canal shed in 1966, 3 years after closure. At this time it was being used to store wooden sleepers, mainly from the closed Carlisle-Silloth branch line.

12C Carlisle Canal shed on the penultamate Sunday before closure 10/6/1963. The view of the straight shed is taken from the cab of Gresley A3 No. 60041 Salmon Trout. Inside the shed can be seen an A2, Black 5 and Britannia Pacific 70004 William Shakespear.
