41000-41064 introduced 1905. Deely development of Johnson design. Subsequently fitted with superheater.

40900-40939, 41045-41199 Introduced 1924. Fowler 3-cylinder compound, post-Grouping development of Midland compound design and except 41045-41064, with reduced boiler mountings.

Built at London Midland & Scottish Railway Derby Works.

The first withdrawal was 41131 in March 1926 (possibly after an accident? - it was only two months old being built in January 1926). The first proper withdrawals came in December 1952 when 40911, 41109, 41171 and 41182 were condemmed. The last loco of the class, 41168 was withdrawn in July 1961. Loco 41100 is preserved in Midland Railway Crimson livery.
