Number 9 Introduced January 1902. Davies & Metcalfe design for Vale of Rheidol 1' 11" gauge Light Railway (Cambrian Railways).
Numbers 7 & 8 Introduced 1923. GWR development of VofR design.

Number Series 7-9.

7-8 Built at the Great Western Railway's Swindon Works.
9 Built by Davies & Metcalfe (was originally Cambrian Railways number 2, then GWR number 1213, finally renumbered 9 in March 1949).

Loco 1212 (D&M No. 1) was also built by D&M in January 1902 but was withdrawn by the GWR in December 1932.

The Vale of Rheidol narrow gauge line, which runs from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge in Wales, was sold by British Railways. The 3 locos are still in service on the line.
