Introduced 1944. Hawksworth Modified Hall development of Hall Class with larger superheater, one piece main frames and plate-framed bogie.
The first withdrawal was made in January 1963 when 6962 was condemmed from Old Oak Common shed. The last locos withdrawn were 6959/67, 7904/07/14/19/22/24/25/27 in December 1965. Some are preserved.
Number Series 6959-6999, 7900-7929.
Built at GWR Swindon Works.
