Introduced 1911. Churchwood GWR design.
(a) 7301-7304 Introduced 1925. With detail alterations affecting weight.
(b) 9300-9319 Introduced 1932 with side-window cabs and detail alterations. Renumbered as 7322-7341 respectively in the period October 1956 to May 1959 after further detail alterations to reduce weight.

6320 was converted to oil burning in March 1947 retaining its number, but was reconverted back to coal in August 1949.

Number Series 4300-4399, 5300-5399, 6300-6399, 7300-7321, 9300-9319.

Built at Great Western Railway Swindon Works and Robert Stephenson & Co Ltd (6370-99, 7300-7304).

Swindon Lot No. 218 was issued for RS order E114.
6362-6324 were to be numbered 7322-7324 according to the GWR allocation lists.

The first withdrawals were made by the GWR in February 1936 when 4309/13/31/32/64 were condemmed. The first British Railway withdrawals were made in April 1948 when 4365 and 4386 were condemmed from Westbury and Birkenhead sheds respectively. The last locos were withdrawn in November 1964 when 6395 and 7318 were condemmed from Hereford and Gloucester sheds respectively. Some are preserved.
