Charles B. Collett. Total Number Built - 75
Introduced 1932. Collet design for light branch work (designated class 4800 until 1946). Fitted with push-pull control apparatus for Auto-Train working.

Number Series 1400-1474.
Formerly numbered 4800-4874, renumbered to 1400-1474 during the period October-December 1946.

Built at the Great Western Railway's Swindon Works.

The first withdrawals were made in February 1956 with 1404, 1425 and 1460 being condemmed. The last locos withdrawn in May 1965 were 1442 and 1450, Some are preserved.
