English Electric Diesel Prototype Locomotive - DP2

Introduced in February 1962, this prototype locomotive was based on the Class 55 type 5 Deltic bodyshell, but using one large 16-cylinder engine. The loco was later fitted with sophisticated electronic power/control equipment later installed in Class 50 locomotives. The loco, on loan to BR, was used on many lines on the London Midland and Eastern Region of BR until withdrawn from service, after being involved in a collision, in July 1967. The loco was cut up at Vulcan Foundry during 1968.
