Class 27 Profile

Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Company Type 2

These locos were a later version of the Class 26, built using the more powerful Sulzer 6LDA28B power unit. When built the locos were allocated to the London Midland, Eastern and Scottish Regions of BR, but all were eventually transferred to the Scottish Region. The first loco withdrawn was 27039 (D5398) in October 1975, The last loco was withdrawn on 29th July 1987 and cut up for scrap at MC Metals, Glasgow on 26th November the same year.
