Class 15 Profile


British Thomson-Houston Type 1

Introduced in November 1957, this was a another fleet of Type 1 Locomotives ordered under British Railways 1955 Modernisation Plan. They had an off-center cab and were ordered for use on local passenger and freight in the London area of British Railways's Eastern Region. The first units were withdrawn in March 1968, with the final 23 all being withdrawn in March 1971. One loco D8233 is preserved, the remainder being cut up for scrap. BUILT: 1957-61 by the Yorkshire Engineering Co. Ltd and British Thomson-Houston.
