LMSR/NBL Co. Type 1 Prototype Diesel Profile


London Midland and Scottish Railway and North British Type 1 Diesel Locomotive

Introduced in May 1950, the locomotive was ordered by the LMSR to find a replacement for steam traction on secondary and branch lines. Although allocated the name Hawk, it was never carried. It was withdrawn in August 1959 and sold to Brush Traction who used the loco as a test bed. After being used as a mobile power unit in 1972, the loco was eventually scrapped by Brush and cut up during 1976.
